Cultural tour

During 9 days of traveling across the country you will visit the most important historical and cultural sights of the country, you will be able to visit almost all UNESCO sights of the country, enjoy ancient and contemporary culture of the country and hospitality of the people, taste wonderful and unique homemade wine and food, which are the part of Georgian culture.

Day 1

Arr. to Tbilisi international airport

Day 2

After Breakfast we will drive from Tbilisi to Kutaisi. On our way to Kutaisi we will visit Gori – home town of Stalin. First we will visit his house museum and then drive to the cave town Uplistsikhe situated in along the historical Silk Road. The natural caves firs were used for the dwelling purpose in the VI C BC. The main part of the town was built in the Antic time.

After Uplistsikhe we will drive to Kutaisi – the second biggest city of Georgia, which was the capital of Georgia in the 9-11 centuries.

On our way to Kutaisi we will stop at the clay market.

Upon arrival we will visit Sataplia caves near Kutaisi

Day 3

After breakfast we will have city tour in Kutaisi, visit Bagrati Cathedral, built in the XI C and recently renovated. After visiting Bagrati, we will drive to visit Monastery of Gelati, founded by the king David the builder. The Greatest king of Georgia himself is buried in the entrance to the Monastery.

After Gelati we will drive to Borjomi, visit mineral waters’ park and then drive to Bakuriani – ski resort in the lesser Caucasus for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4

In the morning we will drive to visit famous cave town Vardzia. Vardzia was built in the XII Century by Georgian Kings George the III and his daughter Tamar and is the biggest among 3 cave towns which still exist in Georgia.

After visiting Vardzia we will drive to Akhaltsikhe and visit new renovated Rabat fortress and then drive to Bakuriani for dinner an overnight

Day 5

After breakfast we will drive to Kazbegi – settlement near Russian border via Georgian Military way and Cross Pass. On our way we will visit local family winery for wine tasting and light lunch. After lunch we will drive to Ananuri castle, which overlooks over the beautiful Zhinvali Lake.

Drive back to Tbilisi.

Day 6

After Breakfast we will drive to Mtskheta – Old capital of Georgia

We will visit old capital of Georgia – Mtskheta, which is UNESCO site with its 2 magnificent churches Jvari and Svetitskhoveli.

Exceptional location of Jvari Church (VI C) gives beautiful view on the city itself. After visiting Jvari we will visit the Holiest church of Georgia – Svetitskhoveli (XI C) were the robe of Christ is buried.

After visiting Mtskheta we will visit local family winery for wine tasting and light lunch

After lunch we will drive to Tbilisi and start city tour in Tbilisi

Tbilisi has quite long 1500 years history as a capital. Foundation of the city is related with the famous Tbilisi Baths – natural spring waters with sulfur. Baths’ district is nowadays the heart of the old town Tbilisi. During our city tour we will visit this famous baths, also XVII C. Metekhi church situated on Metekhi Plateau. From plateau you can see Georgian, Armenian and Catholic churches, also Jewish Synagogue and Muslim Mosque side by side as a symbol of Georgian tolerance. We also visit Narikala fortress, Cathedral Sameba – which is the highest Orthodox Church and the oldest church of Tbilisi – Anchiskhati (VI-VII C). Next to the Anchiskhati is the oldest café of Tbilisi – “café Gabriadze” named after the famous Georgian film maker RezoGabriadze.

We also visit the main avenue of Tbilisi – Rustaveli Avenue with the buildings of almost all the types of European Architecture of the 19th century.  We will visit National Museum of Georgia as well.

In the evening we will have dinner in one of the traditional Georgian restaurant with folk show

Day 7

In the morning we will drive to David Gareji Monasteri situated in the semi-desert in the region bordering with Azerbaijan. The monastery was founded by one of the Assyrian monks David Garejeli in the VI C BC and was one of the first monasteries in Georgia.

After visiting David Gareji we will drive to Sighnaghi – cozy city in the heart of Kakheti with the city wall which is the second biggest in the world with its area.

After visiting Sighnaghi we will stay there for overnight stay.

Day 8

After breakfast we will drive to visit Gremi fortress, built in the XVI C, which was the capital of Kakheti region in the middle ages. After visiting Gremi, we will drive to Telavi and visit Alaverdi Cathedral, founded by Assyrian Monks. Alaverdi was the highest temple in Georgia till recent time and was a symbol of unification of Georgia.

After Alaverdi we will visit Tsinandali – summer residence of the noble Georgian family – Chavchavadze. Founder of this beautiful European style palace and gardens was the father of Georgian romanticism – Alexander Chavchavadze.

After walk in the garden we will drive to the Kakhetian farmer house to have a traditional lunch with the Georgian folklore songs.
