Georgia is a cradle of wine and one of the most rapidly growing wine destination of the world. We have around 8000 years’ tradition of wine making and more than 500 sorts of local grapes. Every rural family in Georgia is making wine at home using the oldest winemaking method – Kakhetian method, which means fermentation, storage and aging of wine in the earth berried clay vessel – Qvevri. This method became popular thanks to the new generation of Georgian wine makers and now is recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage. Autumn in Georgia is a special time of the year, as at this time the Rtveli or in other words the harvest takes place. Winemakers start to harvest grapes from their vineyards by the end of September and begin the process of winemaking.
The tour is designed to show to the wine lovers history of the ancient wine culture, to give possibility to taste traditional Georgian and European style wines made in the small wineries as well as by bigger wine producers and communicate with wine makers.
During the tour you will visit two main wine regions of East Georgia – Kakheti and Kartli, taste organic or regular wines of these 2 regions, participate in Rtveli and learn how exactly Georgian wine is made, but you will have an opportunity to visit the factory and taste Georgian cognac as well.
